Mrs. Lynn Gernert was elected Surgeon of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States Department of Hawai'i on June 20, 2026, at the 88th VFW Department of Hawai'i Convention at the Ala Moana Hotel in Honolulu, Hawai'i.

Lynn Gernert served in the United States Army from July 03, 1996 to July 31, 2016.  She earned her VFW eligibility while serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) from 2009 to 2010.  In recognition of her service in combat, she received the Iraqi Campaign Medal.

She joined the VFW on June 20, 2020, at Post 2875 in Honolulu, Hawai'i, and maintains her Life membership at VFW Post 2875 in Honolulu, Hawai'i. 

She is married to Tim Gernert, they have a daughter, three cats, one dog and reside in Waipahu, Hawai'i.
