Mr. Lynn B. Mariano was elected Senior Vice Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States Department of Hawaii on June 14, 2025 at the 87th VFW Department of Hawaii Convention in Kilauea Military Camp on the Big Island of Hawaii.
Lynn Mariano served in the United States Army from 1978 to 1995. He earned his VFW eligibility while serving in the Republic of South Korea and participation in Operation Desert Storm and Desert Shield from 1990 to 1991. His last assignment was with the Joint Special Operation Command (JSOC), where he participated in various classified missions and contingencies.
In recognition of his service in combat, he received the Bronze Star Medal (2nd Award); Defense Meritorious Service Medal; Meritorious Service Medal (4th Award); Joint Service Commendation Medal; Army Commendation Medal (2nd Award); Joint Service Achievement Medal; Army Achievement Medal (4th Award); Joint Meritorious Unit Award (2nd Award); Meritorious Unit Commendation (2nd Award);Army Superior Unit Award; National Defense Service Medal; Southwest Asia Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon (2nd Award); Kuwait Liberation Medal; Parachutist Badge; Royal Australian Army Parachutist Badge; Korean Defense Service Medal and numerous certificates of commendation and achievements.
Lynn joined the VFW in 1990 at Post 8469 in Fairfax Station, Virgina and later transferred to Post 8616 in Honolulu, Hawai'i. As the Post Commander, he helped lead his Post to achieve All-State and All-American status for the last five consecutive years: 1999 to 2025.
Lynn is a professional musician who volunteers numerous hours playing and teaching ukulele to patients at a rehabiliation center on Oahu. He actively participates in many other community events and nonprofit organizations that share the same values as the VFW.
Lynn is married to Jade and reside in Honolulu, Hawaii.
