Mrs. JoAn Hill joined Auxiliary 8547 (California) in 1978, under the eligibility of her husband, who was a Life Member of VFW Post 8547. JoAn has a daughter that served in the Persian Gulf and is also a Life Member of Post 8547. She has two daughters and a grandson who are members of Auxiliary 12122 (Kailua-Kona, Hawaii). She also has two other daughters that are members of Auxiliary 3875 (Hilo, Hawaii). JoAn has another grandson that is currently serving in the Air Force and has served 2 tours to Afghanistan; she has not convinced him yet, to become a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
JoAn has served in all positions for Auxiliary 8547 (California), including Secretary and Treasurer. She was elected as Conductress for the 23rdDistrict (California) and has held all positions to District President (1984-1985). During her tenure as District President, JoAn received the prestigious award for Outstanding District President. She served as District Chief of Staff for many years and also served as Department color bearer, secretary for the Department Convention in Palm Springs, and Department Membership Chair under Mary Belum, who was the Department President at the time (California).
In 2003, JoAn and her husband moved to Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. In 2011, Auxiliary 12122 was Instituted in Kailua-Kona, and she was invited to join. Although she attended all Auxiliary and Department events, she did not immediately join Auxiliary 12122 until three years later.
JoAn served as Secretary, Trustee, and President for Auxiliary 12122. In 2020-2021, she became Department of Hawaii President and was awarded the Circle of Excellence.
JoAn Hill was raised in California, New York, Puerto Rico, and Nebraska.

JoAn and her husband have 5 daughters, 9 grandsons, 6 great grandsons, and 4 great granddaughters. She is a member of the Elks, and she enjoys playing duplicate bridge, and spoiling their extended family.
