 HAWAII STATE CHAPLAIN

Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States

 

Stanley Y. Fernandez was  elected as  State Chaplain for the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States Department of Hawaii on June 22, 2024 at the  86th VFW Department of Hawaii Convention in Honolulu, Hawaii.

 

Stan served in the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1984 He last served with Headquarters 326thAir Division, Pacific Air Forces as the Command Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Air Division Commander. Stan earned his VFW eligibility serving two tours in Vietnam, one year in So. Korea, and in the Cuban Crisis. In recognition of his  service, he received the Bronze Star, Air Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with four oak leaf clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Air Force Outstanding United Award with "Vā€ device, five additional Air Force Outstanding Unit awards, Outstanding Airman of the Year, National Defense Medal with bronze star, Korea Defense Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.

 

He is a Gold Legacy Life member of the VFW and currently hold membership

In Post 10276, Fort Shafter Post in Honolulu, Hawaii. Stan has served in elected and appointed positions at the Post and Department levels, culminating achieving "All American Status.ā€ On the National level, Stan was elected to serve on the National Council as a member of the Board from 2016 -2020.

 

He received his Associate of Art degree in Work Center Management from the Community College of the Air Force and his Associate degree in Business

Management from Hawaii Pacific University. Stan is a graduate from the US Air Force Senior Noncommissioned Officers Academy,  and Graduate of the Officer Candidate School.

 

Stan is a retired Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps instructor, also retired from United Airlines as a Customer Service Representative.

 

He is a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, life member of the Vietnam Veterans Association, Life Member of the Air Force Sergeants Association, Life member of the Knights of Columbus and life member of the VFW.

 

Stan and his wife, Miriam, reside in Pearl City, Hawaii.
